Vince Watson — Picks Five Albums
Vince WatsonVince Watson has always occupied that rare space where deep musicality meets dancefloor instinct, and his catalogue tells the story of an artist who treats every composition like a world to step into. Across his productions, Watson has carved out a signature built on luminous chords, elegant piano work, and a sense of elevation that feels almost architectural. His tracks don’t just move; they ascend.

With recent remasters breathing new life into some of his most sought- after recordings, it’s the perfect moment to revisit the evolution of an artist whose sound has remained both timeless and quietly influential. From jazz-flecked rhythms to soaring, sun-kissed harmonies, Watson’s work continues to radiate that unmistakable blend of warmth, precision, and emotional clarity.

Tracing the journey of a producer who has spent decades refining the art of uplift, this is his chilled-out album selection.

KLF — Chillout

Lying around in fields in my youth listening to this in what now feels like endless summers, experimenting with small white pieces of paper with Buddhas on them seemed to be a perfect combination. Probably still is. One of the best ambient albums ever made - not for drones, not for spacey sounds, but simply to spark your imagination and be transported to different places by train. Simply wondrous.

Jean Michel Jarre - Rendezvous

After seeing this on TV, the album was analyzed deeply by me even before I had any right to even try - I had a small Casio sampling keyboard that a week before hearing this, was recording farts with and playing them. The farts stopped after this and I practiced the tracks over and over and over again.

Plaid - The Digging Remedy

One of my all-time favourite duos, they repeatedly come up with the goods - you can wait a long time between albums, but they are all worth it. This was one of their best projects - the concept, art, change of logo, videos and the polymaths needed were exceptional. True artistic visionaries.

Nuron - DAT Tapes Vol 2

A very recent one on the fast becoming 'cult' label Detuned, this Nuron album of unreleased Dat tape recordings is utterly immense. One of IDM's hero's comes out of hiding and hits us with so many beautiful pieces - it's staggering how these never saw the light of day. Another genius.

Ben Lukas Boysen - Spells

My final genius of the list, BLB is one of the best composers of electronic music the world is fortunate to have. An endless source of inspiration for me, his albums have been rinsed by me walking through the T'Gooi forests as I walk with my doggy. He is a special artist.
