Thank you for taking the time to talk. Where are you this moment and how are you spending the today?
I'm in my restaurant that I own. All of my free time today will be spent making music.
Can you introduce yourself to our readers.
I'm Carlos Salame and I produce by the name Trip Tease. I've been producing music for 20 years and have had some successful releases for DJ Seinfeld on Ninja Tune and Rhye. I produce house, future garage to Italo disco and whatever has a dreamy nostalgic and energetic vibe to it.
Where are you living currently?
I live in Mexico City
What is it you love most about the city in which you live?
The food, the people, and the music!
How is the health of the music scene where you are?
It's amazing, we have Sunday Sunday, YuYu. Both amazing clubs that are perfect spots to get to know new local artists.
How is the health of the music scene generally in your opinion?
I think the DJ scene has destroyed the music scene in a way because it lowered the bar for live acts and people stopped investing on them. We should as artists try to bring the bar up again with live music. I love a good DJ set but as listeners we should also understand it's a totally different art form.
Who are the icons who have inspired the music that you put out?
Fred Again, Jasper Tygner, DJ Seinfeld, the 90s Music, Ross From Friends.
Give us an overview of Sex Having Disco.
This EP is a blend of the vision Alain Vice had with Italo disco with my ability to bring that aesthetic to melodies and grooves. It has that dreamy nostalgic vibe that I love to hear and produce.
What can you tell us about Alain Vice?
He is an amazing DJ who has an incredible vision for music.
How long did this release take to come together? Did it flow easily, or did it take some time to perfect?
It was actually a work of many years since we worked on it together it took us a while. We did around 8 songs before we chose this final 4.
Do you take time - after you have made a track – to leave it alone for a while to evaluate?
We definitely took our time with this EP for about 8 years lol.
Do you find the feedback of others is important to you in the music release process?
Always, you get stuck with your own obsessions, it’s really important to listen to feedback.
What are some of the challenges in putting out music currently?
That it gets lost in the abyss of the million releases a day.
What drives you to create/ work in music do you think?
It’s a feeling that’s left over in my head, and the next obvious reason is to print it somewhere.
What other artists do you think are making great music right now?
I love Fred Again too much, Jasper Tgyner is also one that I can’t believe what he is doing currently.
What was the last record you purchased?
Tom VR – Please Keep Shimmering.
What has been a highlight of the last year for you?
The Prins Thomas remix he made for us.
What can we expect next from you?
More music. Lots and lots of more music.
