Fresh from celebrating the label’s tenth anniversary with Decade One, Sean invites us back to his place - a warm Bristol living room where the glow is soft, the conversation is easy, and the records tell their own stories. This is where influences blur, memories surface, and the music stretches out in its purest form. Brenda Taylor - You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat It Too
My friend Deli G played this at a disco boogie event in Cardiff around 2003. It was my first introduction to West End Records and I've loved it since.
Norman Connors - Invitation
There was a sample track of this by Gigilo Supreme we used to play many years ago, but I've been listening to the original again recently which is pure class!
SOS Band - Groovin' (That's What We’re Doin’)
I first heard this on Solar Radio UK when I was about 16. All about the piano and subtle synth solos for me that really make this a classic groove.
Roy Ayers - Searching
I was introduced to Roy’s music through hearing him featured on MAW’s Nuyrorican Soul album, and since then dug deeper. For the chords using and his style of vibraphone playing, he remains one of my all time favourite musicians.
Natalie Cole - Tell Me All About It
I’ve been playing the house edit of this again recently. It was originally written by Michael Franks, but Natalie Cole takes the song to a new trajectory!
Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham - Low Ceilings
Something a bit more recent. Kaidi did something really special here, with the way this piece progresses. Not a typical club record, but it always gets me moving. Love Andrew’s vibey vocals too.
Lynda Dawn - Love Is Callin’
Lynda is one of my favourite artists around today. She has that classic soul sound, like a modern Minnie Ripperton, and the music definitely compliments her style.
Ronnie Foster - Mystic Brew
With the recent Electric Stew house record blowing up at the moment, naturally these moments take you back and remind of some great classic records. This is no exception from Ronnie Foster.
Joyce Moreno - Feminina
From a great Brazilian label, Far Out Recordings brought this one back to the forefront. Joyce really takes you on an epic journey, laced with flute and vibraphone solos.
Angie Stone - Wish I Didn’t Miss You
This is one of my favourite records to end a night with. It always gets everyone singing along. I even did an edit that goes between the original -Back Stabbers” version and Angie’s version. There’s also been some cool dancefloor mixes over the years.
