The United Freedom Collective are just about to drop a new EP, Bright Patterns, on Multi Culti, the new-age leaning, psychedelic electronic imprint that embraces folk instrumentation and the mystical traditions of world cultures. United Freedom Collective was founded by Robbie Redway, Mathieu Seynaeve and WaiFung Tsang. Based in Margate in the UK, the band was conceived around the concept of psychedelic therapy, yoga and breath work. They are currently on tour in Europe supporting Maribou State, and already have fans like Gilles Peterson and Don Letts.
Bright Patterns is influenced by birds, trees, and Buddhists, by meditations, Jungians, Taoism, Amazonians, and psychedelic cultures. From Afro-inspired jazz to Chinese folk, psych to dub and dance. It’s an ambitious and inclusive collection with collabs that extend well beyond the borders of western musical traditions.
Here Robbie Redway takes us back to his after the club. The lights are low, the incense is burning, and the shoes are off. This is the playlist:
Photay feat. Carlos Niño - Change

This track has the most beautiful textured synth arp I think I've ever heard. Photay and Carlos Niño are up there as some of the best ambient producers around, and this track is one I'd happily annoy people with at an after party, as long as they don't talk over it.
Maribou State - Passing clouds

These guys just released their 3rd album. Ever accomplished and beautifully well produced music. They have been very supportive of us too. We're on tour with them right now, which is super exciting. This is the most chilled track on the album, but the whole record is superb, and always a crowd pleaser.
Svaneborg Kardyb - Orbit

Awesome track from these Scandi jazz heads. Slightly mournful but the payoff trumpet solo at the end brings so much light. Lovely.
Susanne Sundfør - leikara ljóð

One of my favourite singer-songwriters, Susanne Sundfør, is a wonder. This track is so healing and uplifting, and I've played it 'back at mine’ many many times. The stacked vocals are such a moment.
Werther - Leilão

Moving into some gentle grooves now. Bossa Nova don Werther - this track will ease everyone into a state of joy and get a few people moving, which is always nice.
Meridian Brothers - Bombs Atomica

I’ll often play this early on in a DJ set but I think it works for afters. It’s got such cool groove, and the vocal is at that perfect sweet spot between catchy and really weird.
Cassiano - Onda

The peak track of this post party mega mix. Just beautiful slow disco vibes. Everyone will be getting up, closing their eyes and singing ‘ondaaa’ over and over like a bunch of hypnotised angels.
The Circling Sun - Plume

Spiritual jazz time. This one has just enough wonk to clear the riff-raff out of the room. Wicked piano and sax playing.
Dorothy Ashby - Come Live With Me

The fire is just embers now, the weirdos have left, it’s time to just sink into the sofa and melt away to Dorothy Ashby and her sublime soulful harp.
Martin Hayne - Carry

One for the final stragglers to rest to. Such a smooth, heartful landing. Solo guitar with tape delays. Bliss.
