The following interview was conducted on November 23, 2025

Jimena Angel It's a pleasure to talk to the wonderful Jimena Angel who drops her colorful and exotic album Aguacero on Yuksek's Reims based Partyfine imprint. She discusses her musical journey, which began at age five and progressed from singer to musician, and now proudly includes her role as a music producer for three of the album's tracks.

Thanks for talking to us. Where are you this moment and how are you spending the day?

Thanks for the invitation! Right now I'm at home in Buritaca, finalizing details for tomorrow's launch of AGUACERO.

Where were you born? Where are you based now?

I was born in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, and now I live in Buritaca, a small town on the Colombian Caribbean coast.

What do you love most about where you are living?

I love the climate, waking up to birds singing, going to bed to the sound of the jungle, going to the beach before or after an inspiring day in the studio, and cycling while admiring the beautiful landscapes.

If money was no object, and you could choose anywhere in the world to live, where would that be and why?

I think I would love to live on a Greek island... After visiting Corfu and Ithaca, I fell in love with their geography, their aquamarine sea, their white houses, their food, and I would love to learn more about their culture.

How long have you been making music? What was your first step as a musician?

I wrote my first song when I was five years old and started studying guitar and singing when I was ten, but I must say that my first professional performance was at the age of sixteen, singing in a blues bar (obviously without my dad's permission or knowledge).

Jimena Angel

Are you a DJ as well as a singer and musician? What came first Djing or production or being an artist/ musician?

First I was a singer, then a musician, then a producer... Being a DJ was the last thing.

What kind of artists, DJs, genres were you into growing up?

When I was young, I liked artists such as Jamiroquai, Björk, Bob Marley, Totó La Momposina, and Chic. I didn't know much about DJs back then.

Who are the artists that you follow right now?

I love Voiláaa, Yuksek, Souleance, Lontra and Bosq

What is the most recent record you purchased or downloaded?

I bought "Earth is Begging" from Sunborn & Clap! Clap!

I loved all of the tracks!!!

If you could choose a few words to describe the vibe of Jimena Angel what would they be?

Cheerful, sensitive, honest and passionate!

Give us a brief overview of your new album and the initial idea. When did you first approach this concept and what was your original intention?

AGUACERO is an album as eclectic as my tastes and myself. I wanted to integrate everything I like, listen to and believe in into a single album, because that's how I like to express myself through music (in my DJ sets and compositions).

That's also how I think the rhythm of life goes (sometimes slow and calm, other times more lively and chaotic), and that's how I like to feel many textures and flavours in the food I eat.

It wasn't an initial idea... rather an understanding that came from listening to what had come out of me over a period of time, brought together by constant rainstoms that inspired it.

What was most important for you to convey through these tracks?

I wanted to reflect all the states that love can immerse you in with its constant transformation. Just like the cycle of water in its different states. That's why there are some very deep and even melancholic songs, as well as some super enthusiastic and lively ones.

Do you feel that you were able to accomplish all of your intentions?

In my soul yes… Let's see what happens in yours!

What are you most proud of with this release?

I am very proud to have finally graduated as a music producer, having completed three tracks on the album all by myself... the three singles! I wasn't sure if I was capable or how to do it, but it came naturally and I enjoyed it very much.

What was the most challenging part of bringing the release together?

For me, it was challenging to have to find a record label myself and represent myself. In general, everything that is not related to the music itself, but that makes the music reach everyone's ears, the business side, logistics, etc... is quite difficult for me.

Who are the other artists/musicians on this EP that you would like to shout out?

I collaborated on the production with Bruno Patchworks, Nickodemus, iZem, Captain Planet, Maga Bo, and Daniel Michel. León Pardo, Marco Fajardo, Alex Martinez, Luis Luque Niño, Juan David Lacorazza, and David Cantoni participated in the recording of the album.

What drives you to create music do you think?

Nature, love, the urge to dance... and apparently RAINSTORMS

What has been one of your favorite moments from the past year?

When Yuksek told me that my album could be released on his record label... I was such a fan that I couldn't believe that was actually happening!

Where do you find the most inspiration when it comes to discovering new music?

Going to festivals and concerts always brings new music that I then research on platforms, opening up more avenues to new tracks, genres, and artists. I also listen to mixes on the web and start exploring what I like.

Is there anything that you would like to tell us about you?

I love that by following my heart in what I love to do, even though it has often been difficult and I have been told many times to change direction, it is what has led me to release a new LP with the artists I admire, go on tour and answer this interview you are doing to me.

What can we hope to see next from Jimena Angel?

More eclectic music and collabs and a new European tour by March/April on 2026
