This Everyone Back To Mine comes to us from GOSHAWK who is about to release his ‘Loyalty EP’ on Amsterdam imprint Lumberjacks in Hell.
Real name Matt Rivem, he is best known for his work with the duo Rhythm Plate and his solo projects under the Goshawk moniker. Over the years he has released a on Atjazz, Situatism, Groovement Inc and the brilliant Hudd Traxx where he has showcased plenty of deep house grooves with his laid-back, jazzy touch. We ask Matt to take us back to his after the club. The mood is very chill, the lights are low, and the shoes are off. This is the playlist.
John David 'On The Mountain'
Can't get enough of this melancholy 80s synth vocal vibe. The multi-tracked vocals are lush - can't believe this isn't more well known
Trevor Dandy 'Is There Any Love'
I love Gospel music, and this track just knocks it out of the park. The drum beat is rock solid and hypnotic, and it just keeps building and building. Funky as hell, ironically
Rhythm Plate 'Keep a Light On'
As well as Goshawk, I've been involved in the Rhythm Plate project with Ant Plate since 1999. This was from our 2013 album, and features Sean Bean's daughter on vocals, live strings and a spoken word poet. Pleased with my Rhodes chords on this one.
Jan Hammer Group 'Don't You Know'
Crisp drums, jazzy Rhodes, bubbling synth bassline - topped off with a fantastic vocal. My kind of thing for sure
John Beltran 'Clouds Pull'
Beautiful emotive string chord sequence with an unusual structure (5/4?). Reminds me of 'La Ritournelle'. Lovely stuff!
Peter Broderick 'Colours of the Night'
Love this kind of modern folk - just beautiful music. Big fan of Peter's music, and this track gets me every time
YSE Saint Laur'ant 'Warm Wind Brewing'
I know i'm a bit biased, but I think Ant Plate is a genius. He should be much more well known, his YSL productions are a masterclass in slo-mo Balearic business. Check this Henry Mancini sampling track for a perfect example of what I am talking about
Electric Wire Hustle 'They Don't Want'
Hard to pick a favourite from their eponymous 2010 album - it's full of wonky, woozy vocal tracks with interesting drum programming. This is perhaps the most accessible track. I love the way it switches around 3 minutes in.
Phoenix 'Run Run Run'
Big fan of Phoenix's first album, which was much more synth/drum machine/studio based - as opposed to full band tackle. This track features interesting guitar chord progressions and a super-catchy chorus. Played this album in the car so many times
Izy 'Out The Door'
Woozy synth chords, low slung bass and a loping beat - topped off with a soulful vocal. Every time it's a yes please from me
Check out the latest release from Goshawk.
