Bad Colours

Bad Colours drops a kaleidoscopic new album on Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz imprint. The London-born, Maryland-raised, Brooklyn-based DJ, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist – aka Ibe Soliman – continues to build on his reputation for putting out bumping, groovin’ – sometimes explicit - dance music with tons of swagger.

After a hard night at the club Bad Colours brings some of his closest back to his to carry the party on. The mood is chill, the drinks are flowing, the shoes are off. This is the playlist…

I'm in Love - Jennifer Lara

The original of this is probably one of favourite songs of all time and when I heard this cover my mind was blown.

Come Live With Me - Dorothy Ashby

She's got a lot of stuff that's been sampled to death but I've always loved this one. Big fan of all of her stuff really.

Mascaram Setaba - Mulatu Astatke

Being Ethiopian, I grew up around all these amazing scales and rhythms even if I wasn't directly listening to Ethio jazz. This one reminds me of going around to cafes with my dad.

When We Get By - D’angelo

This guy had so many joints but this was always my jam. Fun fact - my sister is in the Brown Sugar video. RIP.

Soon I’ll Be Loving You Again - Marvin Gaye

This whole album is magic but he really flexed on this one.

Losalamitos - Gene Harris

Gene Harris has a lot of smooth stuff but is some galactic I need to go buy a caddilac playa shit.

Country Livin’ - Esthero

I listened to this album a lot when I moved to NYC. She has an incredible voice and production from Doc was so fitting for her.

Agora ou Nunca Mais - Ana Mazzotti

Can’t remember how this got on my radar years ago but I’m such a sucker for time changes. Also a sucker for Brasilian jazz / funk.

Bebete Vãobora - Jorge Ben

The feel of this song is so good it’s like every part is talking to each other.

The Vibes is Right - Barrington Levy

This is one I’d heard a few times over the years but a few years back I was working with my friend Maxwell Osborne trying to figure out a finale for his AnOnlyChild show and he suggested this. It was perfect.
