Lex Wolf We caught up with Ibiza based edit wizard Lex Wolf who is next up on Brooklyn’s Razor-N-Tape with four cuts of dancefloor bliss. Here we talk about his love of Pikes, his Lextended series and his new EP on RNT amongst other things..

Thanks for stopping by. Where are you this moment and how are you spending your day?

You're welcome I'm currently in Ibiza just about to get in the studio.

Where are you from, where were you born?

I'm from Liverpool and I was born there so 100% Scouse.

What made you up sticks and move abroad initially?

Music, blue skies, nightlife, and freedom.

So, you're based on the white isle these days. What do you love about where you are living?

I live 10 minutes from the sea where I swim most days and it's just in the campo so it's right amongst nature. It's peaceful all year round and I can get creative in my studio even in the summer.

You've been running the Love Machine party this summer tell us a little bit about that.

Love machine was spawned from my love for the hedonistic vibe that is in the DNA of this island which has faded due to the way that the scene has evolved. The focus is more on the money than the dance floor. But at my Love Machine parties it's all about the eternal groove the dance floor and the connection that we are all searching for that happens when we dance to the same beat.

What guests have you had to play?

Nightmares On Wax (Dj set), Cici, Make A Dance, Pascal Moscheni, Liz Cass live, Mat Playford live.

Have you played much at Pikes?

I've been playing Pikes for over 15 years and was fortunate enough to know Tony Pike. I remember sitting down with him many times and listening to his stories, which was such an experience, especially to hear his unique perspective on the history of the islands' culture.

I've played with loads of different people too many to mention or remember, but I always had a real connection with the crowd.

Tell us a little about Freddies..

I remember the first time I played there. The bed Freddie Mercury used to sleep in was still in the middle of the room, so it had a proper intimate bedroom house party vibe which it still has today.

How long have you been making music as Lex Wolf?

Lex wolf is a new project focusing on the dance floor, creating tracks edited or inspired by older, lesser-known tunes to give them a revamp for the next generation, but always respecting the original vibe.

Tell us a little about your Lextended series?

I've been making edits for many years purely to create a new track for every gig I play so as you can imagine, I have hundreds of edits, and I don't really share them. But I did give them to a few friends and Josh and Ben from Make A Dance who loved them and came up with the idea of doing a vinyl only release. I had already thought of the name Lextended, so we decided to use it and create a series of them. We've done two and we have another one coming at the start of next year. I Really wanted to support the vinyl only scene which has a great community that focuses on quality and the groove and is at the grassroots of dance culture.

Make A Fance - Those boys are having a bit of a moment right?

Yes and fully deserved they work super hard they're really talented and they are great DJ's. Definitely keep eye out for these guys.

What other musical endeavors are you involved in that you can share?

I can’t tell names yet, but I am working with several different artists, and I have just produced an album project for an amazing artist that's been signed to a big label. So, expect a lot of new music next year from that as well as a live show that will be on tour along with lots of new music from me.

Who are the other artists that you follow right now? Who do you think is making great music?

I love listening to DJs, Johnny Rock, and Obee & Thomas station when on the dance floor. Snacks at pacha on Wednesday is the best new party on the island and watch out for Marlon Lopez, Antonio Prosper and Baybjane.

How did you connect with the Brooklyn label RNT?

It was just through the music. They've been supporting the LEXTENDED volumes one and two in the store in Brooklyn and I reached out and thanked them for it and they asked if I had some unsigned music.

I sent them an EP that I had just finished, and they loved it. For me, the most important thing when you sign any music with anyone is that they really love the music and are into what you're doing and it's obviously matched.

JKriv played out in Ibiza recently. Did you catch him?

Yes met him at Pikes, he played there on the Sunday With Benji B and Simon Morell who runs the night, and it was amazing to connect with someone who's been doing it for so long and still loves it and also we knew a lot of the same people. But it's amazing how big this community is around the world, but you still really haven’t met everyone and more importantly meet someone who's doing it for the love of music.

Give us a roundup of your new release on Razor-N-Tape?

The EP consists of four tracks and with all of the tracks the beats and music are original, but I've just gone heavy on the samples which are taken from old school scratch vinyls or DJ battle vinyls and put them together and made different vibes for different times of the party.

What are you working on next that you can share?

I'm just working with an amazing artist called BabyJane who I'm helping produce some ideas they have created to make something very abstract and weird but still fun enough for the party.

What is one of your best moments from this last year?

Houghton Festival! Also, my Love Machine party’s

When you’re not making hot dance edits, what do you like to do to kick back?

I love swimming in the sea, listening to audiobooks about esoteric knowledge and continuing my quest on the never-ending search for the perfect beat!
