Freerange Records releases the 'Nuphoria EP' by Simbad, the French born, South Africa based, Worldwide FM mainstay. The EP also features Simbad's long-time friend and collaborator Frederick (Astral Arts) aka Peter Oakden, formerly of Fifty Fathoms Deep which he ran alongside Craig Smith. On the ‘Nuphoria EP' Frederick closes out proceedings on ‘Wake Up' contributing a bright and breezy house affair with soulful chords and bouncing square wave bass line. Here we ask Frederick to talk us through some albums that have impacted his musical world.
Kamaal Williams - Stings
It's what an album should be. Been waiting for this since 2019. It’s simply stunning.
Yussef Dayes - Black Classical Music
What a way to share your debut album. A gorgeous long player offering so much more than jazz with his overwhelming force behind the kit.
Ash Walker - Astronaut
A beautiful and thought-provoking cosmic masterpiece from one of our modern-day jazz music elite.
EABS meets Jaubi - In Search of a Better Tomorrow
This album feels like you’re walking towards the sun. A stunning collaboration and cultural exchange.
The Ironsides - Changing Light
Another masterful first full-length effort. It immediately transports you to a cool, cinematic 60s movie. Full of psych-soul sounds and amazing orchestral arrangements.
Speakers Corner Quartet - Further Out Than The Edge
A versatile journey from this South London collective. I just love what’s coming out of London’s nu-jazz scene at the moment!
