FIRST FRIDAYS W/ Ghostland Observatory, Matmos And Marshall Allen
GHOSTLAND OBSERVATORY MATMOS and MARSHALL ALLEN of the Sun Ra Arkestra DJ sets by ALLEN of dublab/Plug Research
2 generations of audio innovators converge as electronic magicians Matmos are joined by tone scientist Marshall Allen for an onstage sonic spectacular. Amplified crayfish nerve tissue, the pages of bibles turning, a bowed five string banjo, and water hitting copper plates are just a few patches in the quilt of sound created by Matmos, who will be joined by Marshall Allen, current leader of the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra with whom he has spent over 40 years. He is considered one of the most revered saxophonists of our time. Come enjoy the aural alchemy of this most logical union of sounds.
Finally, end the evening with a new generation of innovators culminating past influence and present inspiration. Austin, Texas duo Ghostland Observatory is not so much a band as a revelation. Frontman Aaron Behrens' performance style is the love child of Freddie Mercury and Elvis Presley. Producer/drummer Thomas Turner's keyboard lacerations and beats are known to inspire gleeful dancing. Buckle up.
Throughout the night DJ Allen Avanessian of Dublab (who provide infinite streams of commercial free music) and LA's progressive Plug Research record label, will be spinning the wide sonic spectrum that inspires his search for new genres and hybrids that keep music moving forward.
