Matmos — the San Francisco duo of Drew Daniel and Martin Schmidt — are known for wildly experimental musique concrete, booty techno, and pedal steel twangtronica (as well as for being Björk's touring backup laptoppers). The pair has a penchant for taking things literally, making music out of sonic puns. Thus, offered a two-week residency at Yerba Buena, the two decided to move into the museum. The duo's entire recording studio, complete with all the domestic comforts of a home setup, has been installed in the gallery space, where — for two weeks — whenever the museum's open, Daniel and Schmidt are on hand, working on music and collaborating with surprise guests. Matmos kick off the exhibit with a special performance tonight at 6pm sharp. Drop in and make yourself at home. (PS)
