Jiffy-Scuttler Seven: Friday, July 30th Doors Open: 8pm Music Begins: about 9 at Rx Gallery -- 132 Eddy (near Mason) -- 1 block north of Powell Bart $6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hrvatski Philip Sherburne Kendra Juul Wobbly vs. Hrvatski DJ Miso ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hrvatski www.reckankomplex.com Hrvatski (born Keith Fullerton Whitman) was one of the first characters in the american "idm/experimental electronic music" scene, debuting in 1998 with the release of the Attention: Cats compilation LP on his Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge label. Alongside Matmos, Chessie, Kid606 and a host of others, he is intent on blurring the all-too-strict distinctions between techno, rock, free jazz, etc... His debut album Oiseaux 96-98 was heralded for it's 'forward-thinking-ness' by magazines such as The Village Voice, The Wire (who voted it one of the 'top electronic albums of 1999'), and Spin (whose Simon Reynolds voted Oiseaux one of the top 'laptop punk' albums... ever). The last five or so years have shown Keith in a ridiculous amount of settings. Hrvatski's music and remixes have appeared nearly everywhere, including Planet-Mu, Anticon, The Agriculture, Ambush, Locust, Staubgold, Carpark, Tigerbeat6, Lucky Kitchen and more. He has worked with such diverse artists as Matmos, David Grubbs, To Rococo Rot, Can, Oren Ambarchi, Peter Kowald and Greg Davis. Somehow finds time to release music under his own name for the Kranky label and run the amazing Mimaroglu Music Sales website.
Philip Sherburne www.philipsherburne.com Philip Sherburne writes about music for The Wire, XLR8R, Slate.com, plus many others, and is the managing editor of flavorpill San Francisco. He normally deejays techno. Tonight he is playing other music: drones, bell tones, lock grooves.
Kendra Juul Kendra Juul is a musician and video installation artist. She graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory with a BM in TIMARA (Technology in Music and Related Arts) and a BA in English. Kendra has also studied at Iannis Xenakis' studio, CCMIX. Her performance installation work has been at The Kitchen in NYC and in a variety of unusual locations! Recently, she has played with Tadashi Usami, Sudhu Tewari and Kazumoto Endo at The Offsite in Toyko, at the Placard Festival in NYC, at Yerba Buena with a mixed match of mischievous musicians, and with the Lines ensemble at Chapel of the Chimes. Currently, Kendra is working on tracks for the Stasisfield label, for A Take Back the Noise compilation, and is planning for a gig at Jiffy Scuttler. In addition to her solo work, Kendra is an active member of CMAU and Out of The Loop. During the day she can be found at Leapfrog Toys obsessing over 8k audio.
Wobbly http://detritus.net/wobbly Wobbly is a natural. He believes in allowing creativity to flow. This belief can be compared to the difference between a trimmed bush (neat and round) and a beautiful natural bush allowed to burst forth in its best array - free to grow. He finds balance important with a proper mixture. His awareness is superb. All in all, he is his own self and brings out the best in all he endeavors to do as he spreads his talents out across the world like beautiful flowers. Wobbly also feels that satisfaction in the arts, largely music, could be a good avenue towards peace for mankind. "When more people experience the euphoric ecstasy that could be obtained by sampling beautiful musical selections from rock to opera, more people will be less inclined to strife." Wobbly’s work has appeared on Tigerbeat6, Illegal Arts, Praemedia and many, many other hidden places.
DJ Miso www.333recordings.com A.K.A. Matt Thompson runs the excellent San Francisco record label, 333 recordings. The first 7" by drop the lime (ambush/peace off/tigerbeat6) is almost sold out, and the crack: we are rock 7" is up next, followed shortly by deerhoof and sagan 7"s. after that are the hearts of darknesses and girl talk 7"s, curse of the birthmark 7", and the last of the first series of nine 7" singles will be by fktrn (which is dino felipe of schematic with fellow composer vanessa). Spinning something tasty I’m sure.
