Fillmore Jazz Festival Features Vocalist Kim Nalley Jazz Greats Fill Three Main Stages For Historic Festival JULY 5 & 6
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The many colors of jazz ignite the legendary Fillmore district during the annual FILLMORE JAZZ FESTIVAL, JULY 5 & 6, from 10AM to 6PM EACH DAY. Heralded as the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast, this annual favorite combines traditional and contemporary jazz, dozens of gourmet food and beverage booths, and more than 300 juried artists into an extraordinary two-day event! Jazz vocalist Kim Nalley, who has become a Bay Area treasure, will headline Saturday’s lineup. Start your day on Fillmore at Jackson Street and stroll through the Fillmore Jazz Preservation District to Ellis Street for day-long fun. Entertainment stages are located at California, Sutter and Ellis Streets. Setting up the jazz talent on the popular California stage is the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, a non-profit organization based in Half Moon Bay, presenting live concerts in jazz, classical and world music. Festivalgoers can also browse through dozens of local shops, restaurants, and galleries, many exclusive to the Fillmore area. The event is co-presented by The Fillmore Street Merchants and Improvement Association and The Fillmore Jazz Preservation District Merchants Association, and is produced by Hartmann Studios. The Fillmore Jazz Festival is FREE to the public. Parking is available at Ellis and Fillmore and the Japan Center Garage/Kabuki Garage (1600 Geary). For more information visit www.HartmannStudios.com or call 1-800-731-0003. Jazz aficionados can feast their ears on some of the West Coast’s best jazz, with world-class traditional and contemporary sounds plus every kind of jazz in between! Jazz fusion sounds will be center stage with Bitches Brew, The Geo Trio and The Slip. Latin jazz anyone? Fillmore’s got it with Francisco Aquabella, Mas Cabeza and Soul Sauce. Swing and jump with The Johnny Nocturne Band featuring Ms. Dee or swing to the beat of soul and blues vocalist Brenda Boykin. Traditional jazz fans can take in the sounds of Collective Amnesia, Mitch Marcus Quintet, Altura, RLSM or the Eddie Marshall Quintet. Between sets there’s food aplenty. Check out the spicy barbeque, sausages, steak sandwiches, fish & chips, grilled chicken, teriyaki, falafel or gyros, to name just a few. Quench your thirst with beer or wine or go for an icy Margarita blended or on the rocks. Watch Giovanni, The Margarita King, whip up his specialty drink, always an entertaining addition to a festival! Looking for something a little lighter? Ice-cold Fiji Water will also be available. This year’s festival promises to be an art lover’s delight as more than 300 juried artists line the streets to showcase their wares. From watercolors to oils, sculptures to pottery, garments to housewares, there’s something for every taste and lifestyle on Fillmore! Art and crafts will also be available for purchase.
