Heralded as the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast, this annual favorite combines the best of traditional and contemporary jazz, dozens of gourmet food and beverage booths, and more than 8 city blocks of pre-screened arts and crafts into an extraordinary two-day event! Jazz greats including Natasha Miller, Km Nalley, Hammond B3, Legend Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jules Broussard, Babatunde Lea Jazz Quintet, Stompy Jones and the Realistic Orchestra are among the host of performers who will keep the crowd jumpin’ on three stages covering 12 city blocks of the Fillmore. Start your day on Fillmore at Jackson Street and stroll through the Fillmore Jazz Preservation District to Ellis Street for day-long fun. Entertainment stages are located at California, Sutter and Ellis Streets. Festivalgoers can also browse through dozens of local shops, restaurants, and galleries, many exclusive to the Fillmore area. The Fillmore Jazz Festival offers Mexican and El Salvadorian specialties, Asian and Indian delights, Persian and Jamaican savories – try spicy or sweet, salty or sour -- there’s food aplenty to satisfy every palate. Traditional Hawaiian plates will be served courtesy of Kaukini, barbecue from Memphis Minnie’s and down-home cooking from Fillmore’s latest addition, Powell’s Place. Wash down the delicious foods with a large selection of beer, wines and soft drinks. New this year, the Fillmore Jazz Festival will incorporate a re-vamped recycling plan in an effort to support San Francisco’s Clean City goals, by partnering with Biota Rocky Mountain Spring Water out of Colorado. This company’s water is sold in 100% compostable bottles and will be the exclusive water sold at this year’s event. This year’s festival promises to be an art lover’s delight with more than 8 blocks of pre-screened artists lining the streets to showcase their wares. Some of the notable artists include Adam & Hong Rubenstein with ceramics, Fortune Sitole with mixed media collage of South African living, Chad & Philip Glashoff, a father and son team who exhibit life-size metal work sculptures, Rosemarie Kelliher with luxurious knitwear and Jeff Nelson, with inlayed wood furnishings. From watercolors to oils, sculptures to pottery, art to wear to housewares, there’s something for every taste and lifestyle on Fillmore! Art and crafts are available for purchase. The 2005 Fillmore Jazz Festival’s poster artist is Paul Rogers, who has used his talents for a variety of renowned events including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, The Grammy Awards and the Playboy Jazz Festival.
