59TH ANNUAL MARIN COUNTY FAIR CELEBRATES
“THE LEGACY OF FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT IN MARIN”
JULY 1-5

SAN RAFAEL, CA – The 59th Annual Marin County Fair will celebrate “The Legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright in Marin,” Thursday, July 1 through Monday, July 5. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright gave careful consideration to the balance between architecture and nature. This concept has never been more specific than with his creation of the Marin County Civic Center, now a designated national and state historic landmark, which was originally designed by Wright to include fairgrounds and a cultural campus. This landmark provides the setting where the Legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright will be celebrated.
During the Fair, a Wright Pavilion in the Exhibit Hall will feature historic photographs, drawings, memorabilia, film screenings, oral histories and models, chronicling the building and opening of the Marin County Civic Center in 1962. The Pavilion will also chronicle the evolution of the Fairgrounds into Marin’s major performing arts, conference and events center. The civic and cultural facilities are now recognized for their historical significance and for their enduring service to the entire community. Partners in the creation of the Pavilion include the Civic Center Library, Visitor Services, Marin Arts Council, Marin History Museum, Marin Center Renaissance Partnership and County of Marin.
In addition to the Wright exhibit, the Fair will also present the Bay Area premiere and only Bay Area performance of “The Tragedies & Triumphs of Frank Lloyd Wright,” an enthralling theatrical presentation written and performed by John Crowther, who brings Frank Lloyd Wright to life. Fairgoers can attend performances twice each day of the fair in the 300-seat Showcase Theatre. Educational and entertaining at the same time, the play, according to Eric Lloyd Wright, grandson of the famed architect, “… is topical, timely and relevant…like being in the drafting room sitting at the feet of my grandfather.”
This year’s fair will not only feature extensive exhibits on Frank Lloyd Wright, but also offers up traditional Fair favorite attractions, competitions, quality family entertainment, thrilling rides on the midway, a large selection of food and snacks and nightly fireworks displays. This year’s entertainment line-up includes Village People (Thursday, July 1), Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (Friday, July 2), WAR (Saturday, July 3), Tower of Power (Saturday, July 3), Preservation Hall Jazz Band (Sunday, July 4) and Rhythm & Roots Festival (Monday, July 5).
The Fair is open daily 11am-11 pm. Admission is adults, $12; Seniors 65+, $10; Children 4-12, $10; Children under 4, Free. Admission includes all exhibits, entertainment, nightly fireworks and carnival rides. Parking is $6 in all lots. The Marin County Fair is located at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael, off Highway 101.
