"The Dawn of Indian Music in the West," by author and musician Peter Lavezzoli, chronicles the remarkable 50-year history of Indian music in the West. Pioneered by Ravi Shankar and others, Indian music influenced everyone from George Harrison and the Beatles to John Coltrane, Philip Glass, and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead. For this event, the author will be joined by Tanmoy Bose, tabla player with Ravi Shankar, Cheb i Sabbah, a local DJ, and other special guests.
Peter Lavezzoli, a Buddhist, a musicologist, and jazz musician, interviewed numerous musicians for his new book, including Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan, David Crosby, Philip Glass, Zakir Hussain, Mickey Hart, Zubin Mehta, and John McLaughlin. Lavezzoli is also the author of "The King of All, Sir Duke Ellington and the Artistic Revolution: Ellington and the Artistic Revolution."
