The Vienna Choir Boys is one of the oldest boys’ choirs existing in the world, establishing themselves as an icon of Austria for almost 500 years. The first choir consisted of six boys, who were chosen to be among the Emperor’s musicians in order to provide sacred music for the monarchy in the Imperial Chapel.
The choral group, which now consists of 25 boys, travels the world with their uplifting music, singing in 20 different languages. Each season, a new company of boys carries on the rich tradition of Vienna musical life that traces its roots back to musical luminaries such as Mozart, Haydn and Schubert. Great composers and teachers have repeatedly improved the musical quality of the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Choir has given concerts under nearly all the great conductors of this century.
