SAN RAFAEL, CA – Savion Glover, one of the youngest men to be nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in Black and Blue, brings his extraordinary tap talents to Marin Center on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 pm. Called the best tap dancer alive, Glover won the 1996 Tony award for his dancing and choreography of the Broadway smash-hit, Bring in Da Noize, Bring in Da Funk. Glover will perform in an entirely new show set to classical and jazz music direct from a sensational run in New York. The performance will take place at the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, Avenue of the Flags at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael. Tickets are $45, $35, $25; Gold Circle $55. Tickets can be ordered through the Marin Center Box Office at 415-499-6800, Ticketmaster.com or Ticketmaster outlets throughout the Bay Area. Visit http://www.marincenter.org.

Glover made his Broadway debut as the title character in The Tap Dance Kid at the age of 12. He appeared on Broadway opposite Gregory Hines in Jelly’s Last Jam, later touring with the show. In 1988, Savion co-starred in the film Tap! , again teaming with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr. On television, he has appeared in Dance in America: Tap! With Mr. Hines and Tommy Tune for PBS and Nickelodeon, The Academy Awards, Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame and has appeared as a series regular on Sesame Street.

Glover has taken tap dancing in new directions, forging a singular style he calls “hittin” that uses every part of his tap show to create astonishing rhythmic patterns worth of any jazz drummer.
