Charles Johnson reading and booksigning for "Dr. King's Refrigerator" Wednesday, February 16th at 7pm at The Booksmith (1644 Haight Street in San Francisco)
Sages squabble, philosophers deliberate and rulers dream in "Dr. King's Refrigerator" - a new collection of short stories by Charles Johnson. Colorful characters populate this fairy tale-like collection: a man owes taxes on his excessive amount of dreams; a martial arts teacher goes on a spiritual journey; an overworked professional whose insomnia is only relieved during work meetings. In the title story, a young, recently married Martin Luther King, Jr. has a revelation while looking for a midnight snack.
Charles Johnson won the National Book Award for "Middle Passage." One of America's preeminent writers and thinkers, he is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a MacArthur Foundation grant, and, most recently, an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
