The Kitchen Sisters talk and booksigning for "Lost & Found Sound and Beyond" Tuesday, February 1st at 7pm at The Booksmith (1644 Haight Street in San Francisco)
Voices from the Dust Bowl, the surprising tale of Liberace and the Trinidad Tripoli Steelband, stories of Vietnamese manicurists in America, a portrait of an artist as an answering machine, the saga of Sun Studios producer Sam Phillips - these are just some of the many stories drawn from the attics and archives of the nation in "Lost & Found Sound and Beyond," the second audio collection from The Kitchen Sisters.
The Kitchen Sisters (Davia Nelson & Nikki Silva) have been producing radio programs since 1979. They are the creators of the 1999 Peabody Award winning series, Lost & Found Sound, and the 2002 Peabody Award winning series, The Sonic Memorial Project. Their radio documentaries are featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition, The BBC, The CBC, and other national and international media.
