"All" by Hiss Golden Messenger
from Root Work
The vinyl for Root Work, an HGM recording initially broadcast on WFMU, is done and ready to ship. Mixed by Scott Chimney, mastered by Clunk Chimney. It's a real Chim affair.
"Lord, I'm in Your Care" by Royal Jubilee Singers
from Live
Frank Chimney's gospel post yesterday reminded me of a cut that I recorded a few months ago with the Royal Jubilee Singers in a living room in Roanoke Rapids, NC. These gentlemen were all in their 80s, and were powerful. They shook the house.
"All" by Ghost
from Live at Local 506
I headed out to a club to check out Ghost last night. I was pretty tired and almost didn't go, and then went and had my mind fully blown/expanded by these dudes. I'm usually more interested when they play actual songs, but they got down with some freeform shit and it worked for me in the flesh; then they busted out some of the hits from "Hypnotic Underworld" and took us home. Michio Kurhihara had the best guitar tone I've maybe ever heard (at least at a dingy club like the 506) and about 50 pedals, no shit. And flutes (or shakahuchis, I guess) all over everything. That was rad. No audio, just food for thought.
"John Has Gone To The Light" by HGM
from Country Hai East Cotton
I hope nobody minds another taste of Country Hai. Scott Chimney earning the MVP for his bassline and sneaky/skitchy guitar playing on this Sly & Robbie cum Waylon Jennings moon unit. Dig the celeste.
"O Nathaniel" by Hiss Golden Messenger
from Country Hai East Cotton
Here's another fresh cut from the forthcoming HGM record. I hope ye Chims like it.
"Hey Diamond" by Hiss Golden Messenger
from Country Hai East Cotton
Here's a track from the forthcoming HGM album that is finally done. Light your joss sticks and get ready to be gently jamming by 4:05:00. Some Monday morning syrup music. We'll get some digital copies to any Chims that want to hear.
"Anymore For Anymore" by Vestapol
from Unsure
The jamming shepherd tag hasn't been deployed in a while, so I had to version Ronnie Lane's "Anymore For Anymore" to drag it out of retirement. I'm simultaneously stressed and bored during this period of thesis spelunking and baby waiting. What better way to get the ya-yas out than by wasting tons of time recording something. Feel Free Mondays are here .
"Dealer" by John Martyn
from One World
I break my self-imposed track-posting silence to raise a glass to a true master teacher. Stone jam off the mindbending One World. Thank you, John.
"I've Got Puredee" by Mel & Tim
from Good Guys Only Win In The Movies
Mel & Tim coming so, so correct . This whole record killing me on this sunny day.
"Spyderbug" by The Inter-Urban A&E Pit Crew and Rhythm Band
from Bug-In
Bug-In is/was an aural equivalent to the kind nugs that were so plentiful in Santa Barbara County in the mid-90s, when many of us Chimneys were residents there. This record became the holy grail for years until Ryan Chim finally found a copy somewhere, and it still stands the test of time as a ridiculous slice of stutter funk. If the car pumping the tune Sorcerer posted was a Delorean, a dunebuggy was most certainly ruling Spyderbug. Really hard to pick just one cut, they're all so deep.
