"Alex Chilton" by The Replacements from Pleased To Meet Me

Went through a brief Replacements phase and this was one of the songs that got me hooked before I even knew who they were singing about. A perfect tribute to Chilton - just a great rock song.

"**All**" by The Boss from Born In The USA

Saw Bruce perform the entirety of Born In The USA on Saturday night at Giants Stadium. One of those albums I wore the tape out listening to in elementary school. Not sure there is anymore lyrically depressing but instrumentally anthemic album ever made.

"Gold" by John Stewart from Bombs Away Dream Babies

Took a little trip with the parents last weekend and they had the XM dial stuck on the soft rock channel. Too much of most things you have heard too many times but every so often something new to my ears like this one. I thought for sure it was Fleetwood Mac based on the intro but once the singing came in it was clear it wasn't. Then Stevie Nicks comes in on backing vocals and Lindsey Buckingham produced so its easy to see how they were "turnin' music into gold".

"On The Corner (Take 4)" by Miles Davis from The Complete On The Corner Sessions

Got the On The Corner box for my birthday which has tons of deep fried abstract funk nuggets throughout..most pushing 20 minutes. Considering how post-processed the original LP was its nice to hear the extended jams the final mix came from without crazy panning and loops. This is a nice little taster of a take for On The Corner.
Take 4 to be exact.

"Codona" by Codona from Codona, Vol. 1

Continuing from Fraid's post today here is track off the debut from Codona which consisted of:
COlin Walcott DOn Cherry NAna Vasconcelos
One of the best examples where the term fusion is done justice - influences from all over the planet without really sounding like any. ECM just released a box set of their 3 releases from the early 80s.

"Desire Lines" by Meanderthals from Desire Lines

Idjut Boys + Rune Lindbęk = Meanderthals
No reason to even preview these tracks, just run out to the local shop and pick this one up. Perfect sounds for a slowly simmering summer day to keep your head cool. Meanderthals are the dubby counterpart to A Mountain of One, keeping the tempos slow, the bass grooving, synths baking and the guitars shimmering and chiming to infinity with a nice smattering of percussive spiciness on top. Desire Lines.

"SPACEBASS" by Boxcutter from Arecibo Message

Boxcutter dropping this new album recently. Gets thrown in with the whole dubstep camp. Unsure of the need for the English to come up with new micro genres every 5 minutes. Regardless, this thing is a trip throughout and this one sounds like he's pulling out his wiggle stix.

"All" by DJ Marbo et al. from Tokyo Balearic (Shibuya FM)

Now easily accessible through itunes.
"DJ Marbo's style: kind of minimalist and dirty bass driven house, with a melty coating of more glitzy Pacha like vibes drizzled over the top"

"Betta" by Twennynine Featuring Lenny White from Best of Friends

Bright, sunny R&B for a crappy Monday after a beautiful weekend. Keeping this on repeat knowing things will always get Betta.
