Interesting...Can't say I've ever thought Tweedy lacked in melody. My only criticism of Tweedy is probably his self-loathing gets to be a bit much at times. The sum of Wilco's parts are definitely greater than him alone. For my dollars, Sky Blue Sky is a better record than the new one -- I also think it's their best.
One of those super rare times I've gotta give a Clunk post the *shrug*. Finally heard some new Wilco - sonically they nailed '82 Mac to a T, but to my ears, Tweedy really just doesn't write strong melodies. Maybe it'll click w/ my brain someday.
