The following interview was conducted on April 1, 2025

Diogo StrauszDiogo Strausz releases his ‘Caramba EP’ on Razor-n-Tape. Two tracks prime for summer floors with a set of remixes by Kai Alce and Lex Wolf. We have the pleasure to sit down with the Brazilian talent to talk about his new EP, his homeland, and his pumped up cover of the super classic “Canto das Três Raças”.

Thanks for taking the time to talk. Where are you today and how will you be spending it once you've written this interview?

Thanks for having me, DC. I'm currently at my recording studio, and once I wrap this up, I'll head home. It's still Monday, after all.

Where are you from and where are you based now?

Originally from sunny Rio, now based in the greyer São Paulo.

What do you love the most about where you live?

São Paulo brings together people from all over Brazil, I love it.

How is the health music scene where you are?

One of the best in the world, so I've heard. For underground dance music not so big (for the city's size) but the parties we have are on fire.

I'd love to hear about the initial idea for your classic new release.

I’ve always heard DJs play "Canto das Três Raças,"" the classic made famous by Clara Nunes. I’d always wanted to reimagine it with more energy, something that could slot easily into a house set.

When did you first approach this concept and what was your original intention?

I started about a year ago, tested it live a few times, and wrapped it up just in time for release.

What are you most proud of with Caramba?

The remixes are great, and we have been getting so much good feedback from both them and the originals.

The Kai Alce remix is pretty dope. Are you thrilled with what he has done?

Absolutely. I kept my version quite faithful to the original, while he took some bold directions — changing the harmony, keeping the vocals super dry. Really cool choices.

You are releasing on Razor-N-Tape. Why did you feel this was the right place for your music?

I have a great relationship with them — this isn’t our first release together. All the tracks have this Brazilian-meets-the-club energy that fits right in with RnT’s vibe.

What drives you to create music?

What drives humans to eat ? :)

Who are the artists and icons that inspire the music you make?

So many, from Tom Jobim and Azymuth to Floating Points.

What is the perfect setting for you to create some new music?

My studio is lovely, I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s a 30-minute walk from home, just enough time to get some exercise and think about the day ahead.

Where do you find the most inspiration when it comes to discovering new sounds?

I think it’s the other way around; inspiration tends to find us when we’re distracted. Best to be in the studio when it does.

Who do you think is making great music right now?

Tour-Maubourg released a great EP recently called 'Panorama Sessions Vol. 2’

What has been one of your favourite moments from the past year?

I had a big tour in Europe last year, got to travel a lot and finally meet some friends in person for the first time.

What is next for Diogo Strausz?

A new single with RnT featuring Brandon Markell Holmes, a full album later this year focused on Brazilian Space Disco, a few exciting collaborations, a mini-tour next week, and a longer summer tour in Europe.
