ARTIST BIO
Ben Rogers was born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1975, raised in New Jersey, and has lived in California since 1993. He received a BA in Art from the University of California Santa Barbara where he studied with Jane Callister, Laurel Beckman, Dave Hickey, and Libby Lumpkin. He has created his own medium of "vinyl painting" in which vinyl fabric - think car seats or restaurant booths - is cut, layered, and arranged to create evocative imagery that walks a line between hand-made and digital, natural and synthetic, primitive and modern. Vinyl painting is an exercise precision and discipline; a celebration of line, color and shape where an image is amplified by reduction, its essence revealed by the natural limitations of the medium. He has made numerous commissions and his work has been represented in group exhibitions at galleries such as Post Gallery in Los Angeles and Contemporary Arts Forum in Las Vegas.
